A visionary alto saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, Immanuel Wilkins is a leading voice in contemporary improvised music, weaving narrative, spirituality, and social consciousness into a deeply personal sound. Raised in the Philadelphia area, his work draws on gospel traditions, Black American music, and an expansive sense of form and color. Signed to Blue Note Records, Wilkins has released acclaimed albums such as Omega and The 7th Hand, each marked by intricate ensemble interplay and emotional intensity. He has collaborated with artists including Jason Moran, Gerald Clayton, Gretchen Parlato, Joel Ross, and the late Wallace Roney, among many others. Through his lyrical phrasing and fearless exploration, Wilkins continues to expand the expressive possibilities of improvised music while remaining rooted in community and history.
