Bartłomiej NiziołViolin

Born in 1974 in Szczecin, Bartłomiej Nizioł began playing the violin when he was five years old. After graduating with distinction from the Academy of Music in Poznań in the class of Professor Jadwiga Kaliszewska, he continued his studies with Professor Pierre Amoyal at the Conservatoire de Lausanne.

Over the course of his career, he has become a laureate of first prizes at several prestigious international violin competitions, including the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition in Poznań (1991), the Eurovision Young Musicians in Brussels, as well as competitions in Adelaide, Pretoria, and Paris.

For nearly four decades, he has been performing around the world, both as a soloist and a chamber musician.

Resident in Switzerland since 1995, Bartłomiej Nizioł served as the concertmaster of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich from 1997 until 2003, before taking up the same position with the orchestra of Opernhaus Zürich, where he has served since 2003. In 2008, he joined the teaching staff of the Hochschule der Künste Bern.

He has served on the juries of the most important violin competitions, including the Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition, the Tadeusz Wroński Competition for Solo Violin, Premio Paganini in Genoa, and the Karol Szymanowski International Music Competition. He also serves as vice president of the Henryk Wieniawski Music Society.

The artist has received five Fryderyk Awards for albums devoted to the music of Henryk Wieniawski, Grażyna Bacewicz, Eugène Ysaÿe, Karol Lipiński, and Karol Szymanowski. In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious Echo Klassik award for a recording made with the Spyros Piano Trio.

His discography comprises more than twenty albums. The latest recording is due for release shortly and features the first complete recording of all the violin concertos by Feliks Janiewicz, made in collaboration with Wrocław Baroque Orchestra.

Bartłomiej Nizioł is an honorary ambassador of Szczecin and a laureate of the Mayor of Poznań Award.

He performs on a violin by Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù from 1727.
