Alexandra BüchelSoprano

Swedish soprano Alexandra Büchel comes from Stockholm and received her education at University College of Opera in Stockholm, with professor Dorothy Irving and Jeffrey Goldberg.

Lauded for her crystal-clear high notes combined with a rich and warm middle range and vivid acting, she has rapidly established herself as a leading performer of modern and contemporary music which has led her to collaborations with composers, orchestras and opera houses in Sweden and abroad.

In 2017 she received the prestigious Birgit Nilsson award and made a critically acclaimed performance as the Blind Poetess in Blomdahl´s Aniara at Malmö Opera.

Alexandra has also appeared on stages such as Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, Vadstena-Akademien, Cape Town Opera in South Africa, Landestheater Gera and Theater Altenburg in Germany, where she has performed roles such as Gepopo in Le Grand Macabre, Second Niece in peter Grimes, Lucia in Rape of Lucretia, Coloratura Machine in Carl Unander Scharin´s Sing the Body Electric, Gerda in Die Schneekönigin by Valtinoni at Norrlandsoperan and Agnes in the world premiere of Catharina Backman’s Svävande Damen at Malmö Opera.

2018 she was praised for her Lady Madeline in Usher by Claude Debussy/Annelies van Parys at Folkoperan. 2019 she was singing the role Woglinde in Das Rheingold at Vattnäs, Sweden.

2020 she did a concert tour with the contemporary ensemble NEO in a world premiere of Marilyn Monroe songs by Christofer Elgh. 2021 she was singing Lady Madeline in Usher at Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. 

Alexandra also frequently appears as soprano soloist with orchestras such as Radio Symphony Orchestra, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra in Norway, contemporary Ensemble MA, Royal Academic Orchestra and KammarensembleN.

Her concert repertoire includes Mass in C minor, Requiem and Coronation Mass by Mozart, Rossini´s Petite Messe Solennelle, Die Schöpfung by Haydn, Brahms Ein Deutsches Requiem, Carmina Burana by Orff in a staged version at OscarborgsSoperaen in Norway, world premiere of Johannes Jansson´s Peace Symphony, Chant´s d´Auvergne by Canteloube, Parola Lontana by vivtor Varela, Hideki Kozakura´s Nukok, correspondances by Dutilleux, Ligeti´s Aventures, Lloyd Webber´s Requiem and Mahler symphonies #2 and #4.
