Akiko Ebi Chopin and Beethoven - NOSPR
Akiko Ebi / Chopin and Beethoven
That competition was one to remember! Martha Argerich left the jury having denied Ivo Pogorelich access to the finals, the winner was a completely unknown debutant, Dang Thai Son, and in the fifth place, not far away from the podium, one could find Ewa Pobłocka, together with Akiko Ebi (4th place was not awarded). Fortunately, the results of the 10th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in 1980 were not the only criterion for success in further career, and each of the aforementioned pianists found their own way to artistic heights.
Akiko Ebi quickly gained worldwide recognition as a most versatile pianist and chamber musician, yet Chopin’s music has remained central to her repertoire. The recital at NOSPR fits into celebrations of two significant birth anniversaries – Fryderyk Chopin’s 210th and Ludwig van Beethoven’s 250th. Their music, as performed by Akiko Ebi, is certain to make us hungry for more emotions to come soon, i.e. in October, with the 18th Chopin Competition.
